BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ It's been confirmed by the folks at Guinness World Records. North Dakota officially holds the mark for the most snow angels made all at once -- in one place.
State Historical Society curator Marilyn Snyder got the official certificate from Guinness today. She says she was surprised to get it so soon.
The event was held on the state Capitol grounds on February 17th. A total of eight-thousand-962 people got down in the snow and flapped their arms and legs.
Snyder says when North Dakota set the first record for snow angels in 2002 -- it took several months for the Guinness people to confirm it.
The record was broken last year by students from Michigan Technical University. North Dakota wasn't to be outdone -- so Snyder organized another record attempt. And it drew almost nine thousand people.
Today the North Dakota Senate approved a resolution to celebrate the achievement. Bismarck Senator Dick Dever (DEH'-vur) says the resolution names North Dakota as the snow angel capital of the world.
